Caring for Your Jewelry
Cleaning
When keeping your jewelry clean at home, here's an easy way to do it. Mix 1 part liquid dish soap with 7 parts heated water. Place the jewelry in the warmed soapy water and brush with a SOFT bristle tooth brush. Rinse the jewelry with warm water, then blow-dry with a hair dryer to remove water spots. Or you can find fine jewelry cleaning solutions at your local drugstore. For silver, we recommend a sudsing silver polish also found at the grocery or drugstore.
Check-Ups
When jewelry is worn on a regular basis, all sorts of things can happen to it. Prongs get bent, stones get loose, clasps and links stretch. It's important to have your jewelry checked regularly, especially engagement and wedding sets that are worn every day. We recommend you bring your “everyday” jewelry in to Laurie's for a check-up 2 times a year. And pay attention to it, if something is loose or catching, don't ignore it!
Wear
We recommend not wearing rings when in water or when in really cold weather (like winter sports). In pools, lakes, and ocean – your fingers may shrink and your rings can easily slide off. Same issue with cold weather. Also, the chemicals in pools can deteriorate the metal of your jewelry. |
